12.06.2021: Information about the Banach NAWA scholarship programme for foreign students

Education is one of the tools, which open the doors to a better tomorrow, because they present us with opportunities to obtain skills, which use in our future careers brings not only satisfaction, but also provides us with means that determine our functioning in further stages of our daily life.

 

Poland provides free education to its citizens and at the same time, thanks to many initiatives, gives chances of educational development to citizens of other countries. One of such initiatives is the Stefan Banach’s scholarship programme – 2nd cycle studies.

 

There’s an information about the call for applications for the Banach NAWA foreign student programme on the website of the National Agency for Academic Exchange, which is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Agency for Academic Exchange in the form of Polish development aid.

 

The topic can also be useful for foreigners – the beneficiaries of our project who would like to continue their education in Poland.

 

Among others, foreigners from the following countries can take part in the programme: Ukraine, Albania, Angola Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Montenegro, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Columbia, Kosovo, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Mexico, Moldavia, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, South Africa, Senegal, Serbia, Tanzania, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

 

Thanks to the programme, foreigners can pursue 2nd cycle studies in full-time mode in either Polish or English at public and non-public universities subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

 

The programme aims to support the socio-economic growth of developing countries by improving the knowledge and education of the citizens of those countries by offering them scholarships for 2nd cycle studies in Polish or English at universities subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the field of engineering and technical, agricultural, applied and life sciences. On the other hand, citizens of countries such as Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldavia, Serbia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan can benefit from pursuing 2nd cycle studies in the field of humanities and social sciences, except philology studies in the beneficiary’s native language. When applying, you have to specify the field of study for the whole course. The course can be changed only in exceptional situations following the beneficiary’s request.

 

Foreigners who meet the following criteria can apply for scholarships:

  1. are citizens of one of the above-mentioned countries;
  2. are not Polish citizens and have not applied for Polish citizenship;
  3. want to start 2nd cycle studies or preparatory courses in the academic year 2021/22;
  4. when applying, are students of the last year of 1st cycle studies in the field of engineering and technical, agricultural, applied and life sciences or hold the diploma of 1st cycle studies obtained in the country of the Programme in the above-mentioned fields, not earlier than in 2019. In the case of candidates from Europe, Central Asia and Southern Caucasus, it is allowed to hold 1st cycle diplomas obtained in social sciences and humanities;
  5. haven’t obtained a diploma of 2nd cycle or uniform master’s studies; if the common system of studies isn’t applicable in their country, candidates with Master’s or equal diplomas are allowed to apply;
  6. possess documents that certify their proficiency in Polish at the minimum level of B1 or English at the minimum level of B2.

 

The Programme also provides opportunities to take part in preparatory courses before pursuing studies in Poland (Polish language) or summer Polish language and culture course (English language) funded by the NAWA’s president. This offer is for those foreigners who decide to pursue their studies in the Polish language. For those studying in the English language, since 2021 the programme has provided a three-week summer language and Polish culture course after the end of the 1st year of studies (or the 1st semester of studies, as provided for in the curriculum of the university). Applications for the Polish language and culture course will be accepted during the summer semester of the academic year 2021/22. Applicant qualified to take part in the Programme attend the course in the centre chosen by the NAWA. Assignment to centres, which carry out the preparatory course, depends in particular on the field of studies and availability of vacancies at the centre.

 

Documents have to be submitted until June 21 2021 3 p.m. (Polish time). The application has to be filled out electronically (in Polish or English), after logging in to the website: https://programs.nawa.gov.pl/login

Documents will be evaluated in terms of content and form, and the results will be announced on August 31 2021.
