05. 06. 2021 : Meeting with employers
The first of the two scheduled meetings with employers hiring migrants and environments that associate employers took place on May 28 in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting took place at the Migrant Centre in Olsztyn.
The topic of the meeting was to present legal aspects related to the Polish labour market for foreigners. A career counsellor presented the current situation on the labour market with special attention paid to current regulations connected with the pandemic. He also presented project activities intended for employees of companies, which owners were present at the meeting. Such employees will be able to use those activities according to their own needs.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the situation of migrants as a group of potential employees, who meet expectations and needs of Polish employers. A significant number of migrants come to Poland in order to work. A low level of unemployment in Poland encourages Polish employers look for workers outside Poland more and more eagerly. That’s why matters related to employment of foreigners evoke interest on both sides – Polish employers and migrants wanting to find their place on the Polish labour market.
The main goal of the meeting was to show ways in which Caritas Poland could support both sides in terms of employment under its project activities. Besides the legal matters, representatives of Polish employers had a chance to learn about some cultural differences, which offer a chance for establishing effective and long-lasting employment of foreigners in Polish companies.
Employers also talked about hiring migrants after, and during, the removal of restrictions and the opening of restaurants and outdoor catering outlets. The conclusions drawn after the discussion point to the fact that the interest in hiring foreigners is increasing and it will probably be more intense after the individual economic restrictions are lifted. The beginning of the gardening, orchid and agricultural season encourages employees to look for migrants for the coming seasonal work more intensively.
Considering the level of discussion, number of speeches and asked questions, it has to be concluded that the meeting revolved around important and current needs of both the group of migrants and representatives of Polish employees.
